Terms of Service
Last updated: April 25, 2026
Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of Readforth (“the Service”), operated by Readforth. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by them. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
Your account
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure, and for activity that happens under your account. You must provide accurate information at signup and keep it current. We may suspend accounts we reasonably believe are being used fraudulently, for abuse, or in violation of these terms.
Acceptable use
Readforth is a reading tool. You agree not to:
- Use the Service to generate content unrelated to the book in front of you — code, recipes, general assistance, creative writing unrelated to the passage, etc.
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or misuse the AI system prompts or model outputs.
- Upload copyrighted material you don't have rights to, or otherwise infringe someone else's intellectual property.
- Attempt to generate sexually explicit, hateful, violent, or otherwise harmful content through the dialogue. Our AI provider's safety systems also block this.
- Scrape, mass-download, or systematically copy book texts or cover imagery from the Service.
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise commercially redistribute access to the Service.
- Interfere with the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities without coordination with us, or use it to harm other users.
- Share your account credentials with others. One account per person.
Violations can result in suspension or termination of your account without refund.
Subscriptions and billing
- Paid plans auto-renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from your account page. After canceling, you keep access through the end of the period you've already paid for.
- We offer a refund within 7 days of signup if you haven't meaningfully used the Service. After 7 days or after meaningful use, payments are non-refundable.
- We may change pricing at any time. If we change pricing for an existing subscription, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. You can cancel before the change.
- Taxes may apply based on your location and are your responsibility unless applicable law requires us to collect them.
Your content
“Your content” means notebook entries, session transcripts, and any text or files you upload (on the Voice tier). You own it. You grant us a limited license to store, display, and process it to provide the Service to you. We don't use your content to train AI models. We don't share it with third parties except the providers named in the privacy policy, and only as needed to deliver the Service.
You represent that you have the right to upload any books you add on the Voice tier — either because they're in the public domain, because you hold the rights, or because you have a license permitting this use.
Our content
The book texts provided on Readforth are in the public domain and not owned by us. The Socratic dialogue system, the notebook formatting, the book covers we produce, the site design, and all software are owned by us. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our software or designs without written permission, except for personal use of your own notebook content.
AI-generated content disclaimer
Readforth uses AI to generate the Socratic dialogue and your notebook summaries. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or confidently mistaken. Don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or life-safety decisions. The product is a reading companion, not an expert advisor.
Availability; no warranty
The Service is provided “as is.” We make reasonable efforts to keep it running, but we don't warrant uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure operation. Scheduled maintenance and brief outages happen. Upstream providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Stripe, etc.) may have their own availability constraints beyond our control.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Readforth is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We can terminate or suspend your account for violations of these terms. On termination, your access ends; your data is handled per the privacy policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email to active accounts at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless otherwise required by applicable consumer-protection law.
