Why we charge what we charge

A single Socratic dialogue turn costs us real money — the AI that reads with you isn't free to run. A serious reader finishing one book a month costs us about a third of their subscription to serve. The rest pays for new books, infrastructure, and keeping the product getting better without ads or selling your reading data.

Voice mode runs entirely on your iPhone via an open-source speech model — no per-utterance cost to us, and it works offline. That's why we can include it in one tier instead of charging extra for it.

If you use the product heavily and run into a daily limit, you'll see a clear message, not a surprise bill. No usage-based invoicing, no throttling surprises.

Subscribe through the web and you keep the same access on iOS, with the same account. Same library, same notebook, same commonplace book — just a different surface to read on.
