On his wedding night, the creature murders Elizabeth; Victor pursues him across Arctic ice.

Victor and Elizabeth reach the inn at Evian; as night falls, Victor grasps a hidden pistol and paces the passages, watchful for the creature, while Elizabeth observes his agitation with fearful silence.

Victor, fearing the combat will terrify Elizabeth, urges her to retire while he searches the house; he discovers no trace of the creature—then hears a shrill and dreadful scream from her room.

Victor rushes in to find Elizabeth lifeless, the murderous mark of the fiend's grasp on her neck; he glimpses the creature grinning at the window, fires his pistol but misses, and the monster plunges into the lake.
- 04Father dies—Victor imprisoned—then the vow of pursuit
Victor's father collapses under the news of Elizabeth's murder and dies; Victor loses all reason, is confined as a madman, and upon release is consumed by a single maddening purpose—to pursue and destroy the creature who has ruined him.
