Victor encounters his creature on a glacier and agrees to hear his tale of suffering.

- 01Victor roams the glacier and ascends Montanvert
Victor wanders among the glacier's sources, finding temporary consolation in the sublime scenery; the next rain-soaked morning he resolves to climb Montanvert, the ever-moving glacier that once filled him with ecstasy.
- 02Ascent of Montanvert and the sea of ice
Victor ascends the terribly desolate path to the top, crossing the vast field of ice for two hours; standing before the sublime glacier he exclaims to wandering spirits before suddenly beholding a figure approaching with superhuman speed.
- 03The creature approaches across the glacier
The approaching figure resolves into the wretch Victor created; trembling with rage and horror, Victor waits to fight him to the death as the creature's countenance shows bitter anguish combined with malignity.
- 04The creature demands Victor hear him
The creature acknowledges Victor's hatred calmly, reminding him of the duties of a creator and threatening to destroy Victor's remaining friends unless he listens; Victor lunges but the creature evades him easily.
- 05Victor agrees to listen in the mountain hut
The creature pleads eloquently for Victor to hear his tale; Victor, partly from curiosity and partly from a new sense of his duty as creator, agrees to accompany him to the hut across the glacier.
